Overview

At 400Forests, we’re building a new generation of community-owned, digitally enabled water systems through our Smart Water Commons program. These systems fuse ecological restoration with climate-smart technology to secure upstream forest watersheds and ensure equitable, clean water access across vulnerable communities.

Opportunity

Our Smart Water Commons are designed to qualify for both adaptation finance and carbon-linked funding by integrating off-grid water purification, avoided deforestation, and nature-based storage. These systems directly mitigate water-related climate risks while delivering verified impact to funders.

Opportunity

We co-create governance frameworks with communities, prioritizing women and marginalized groups in leadership. Local users help plan, own, and operate solar-powered water filtration units, water tanks, and conservation zones. This participatory model ensures resilience, dignity, and accountability.

Innovation

We deploy IoT-linked water quality sensors, AI-based leak detection systems, and blockchain platforms to manage water rights and usage. Forest restoration efforts surrounding springs are tracked via real-time data dashboards, linking conservation actions to clean water access.

Financing

ur systems are financed through water-access results-based payments, ESG-aligned venture capital, philanthropic funds, and carbon savings from energy-efficient infrastructure. Carbon revenues are recycled back into local infrastructure and watershed protection, closing the loop on social and ecological return.

Partnerships

We partner with adaptation agencies, water utilities, WASH-focused NGOs, civic tech platforms, and global SDG finance initiatives. These partnerships advance SDGs 6 (Water), 5 (Gender Equality), 11 (Sustainable Cities), and 13 (Climate Action) while transforming water justice into climate action.

Core Project Areas

Watershed Resilience

Corridors

We design and restore interconnected freshwater ecosystems—rivers, wetlands, and springs—to enhance water security, carbon storage, and climate resilience.

Blue Carbon Springs

Initiative

We protect and regenerate inland water ecosystems like peatlands and springs, unlocking blue carbon potential while supporting biodiversity and community livelihoods

Smart Water Commons for Climate Justice

We create digitally connected, community-managed water systems that blend ecological restoration, clean water access, and climate-smart governance.

ACT TODAY!

The environment we have is not just the space we live in, it is the intricate system of air, water, soil, climate, plants, and animals that makes life possible. Healthy ecosystems regulate the planet’s temperature, purify water, store carbon, pollinate crops, and protect us from natural disasters. But this balance is rapidly being disrupted.  Add your Voice! ACT NOW!
