Our Vision

To safeguard and restore ocean ecosystems that act as natural carbon sinks including mangroves, seagrasses, salt marshes, and coastal wetlands while strengthening community resilience and advancing global climate action.

Our Mission

A future where thriving oceans and blue carbon ecosystems form the foundation of climate stability, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities worldwide.

Why Our Work Matters

Blue carbon ecosystems store 3–5 times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests. Yet they are among the most threatened habitats, disappearing at alarming rates due to coastal development, pollution, and overexploitation. Protecting and restoring these ecosystems is not just conservation—it is climate action at scale.

What We Do

400Forests works at the intersection of science, policy, and community action to ensure that blue economies are resilient, just, and sustainable. We restore ecosystems, empower local stewards, and influence governance structures that safeguard marine resources for generations to come:

Ecosystem Restoration

We replant mangroves, revive seagrass meadows, and restore salt marshes to rebuild natural defenses against storms, erosion, and climate risks. These ecosystems also act as powerful carbon sinks that capture and store greenhouse gases for centuries

Community Resilience

We co-design solutions with coastal communities, creating sustainable livelihoods in fisheries, aquaculture, and ecotourism. By centering local knowledge and participation, we ensure that conservation strengthens food security, economic opportunity, and cultural heritage

Blue Economy Pathways

We develop sustainable finance models, influence policy advocacy, and support innovation hubs that drive resilient ocean economies. This includes connecting blue carbon projects to global climate finance, enabling communities to benefit directly from carbon markets and climate funds

Empowering Communities

We invest in capacity building, skills training, and leadership development for coastal communities, ensuring they can manage and benefit from marine resources. Our programs prioritize inclusive participation—especially of women, youth, and Indigenous peoples—so that conservation creates lasting social and economic opportunities

Blue carbon ecosystems are the lifeblood of our oceans and coasts, a vital foundation that sustains biodiversity, supports blue economies, and underpins global climate resilience

From mangroves and seagrasses to coral reefs and salt marshes, healthy blue carbon ecosystems store carbon, protect coastlines, sustain biodiversity, and strengthen community resilience

Equitable Governance

We work with governments, regional bodies, and local institutions to strengthen policies that safeguard community rights, secure resource tenure, and promote benefit-sharing. By embedding equity into governance frameworks, we ensure that conservation and carbon finance do not displace communities but instead amplify their voices and livelihoods

Shared Stewardship

hrough co-management agreements, transparent decision-making, and accountability mechanisms, we foster trust and collaboration between communities, scientists, and policymakers. This approach anchors ocean resilience in justice, fairness, and shared responsibility

ACT TODAY!

The environment we have is not just the space we live in, it is the intricate system of air, water, soil, climate, plants, and animals that makes life possible. Healthy ecosystems regulate the planet’s temperature, purify water, store carbon, pollinate crops, and protect us from natural disasters. But this balance is rapidly being disrupted.  Add your Voice! ACT NOW!
